Keep on rockin’, rockin’ me baby

I have a confession to make: I love the Steve Miller Band. Something about that music puts a smile (read: stupid grin) on my face. Is it the percussion? Mr. Miller’s stirring lyrics? The jangly guitar? The well-placed hand clapping? I don’t know. I just know I freaking love it.

  1. In isolation, I wouldn’t say this makes you a nerd, but, in tandem with the fact that you subscribe to a copyediting blog’s Atom feed, I’ll say you’re a nerd. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. The man speaks of the pompatous of love. Enough said.

  3. I also subscribe to both of your blogs’ feeds. What does THAT say about me, eh RTF man?

  4. Dimebag’s apt observation brings me to my next question: What exactly is the pompitous of love? Is it a good thing? A bad thing? Is the pompitous in the eye — nay, the heart — of the beholder? Let’s discuss.

  5. Hey now, I have more than two blogs… as my friend Matt told me in 7th grade, “you pose as a nerd, you nerd poser!” :)Dave Barry has addressed the “pompatus” issue in one of his “Mr. Language Person” columns:Q. In the song “The Joker,” what is the mystery word that Steve Miller sings in the following verse:”Some people call me the space cowboySome people call me the gangster of loveSome people call me Maurice’cause I speak of the (SOMETHING) of love.”A. According to the Broward County Public Library, the word is “pompatus.”Q. What does “pompatus” mean?A. Nothing. Steve made it up. That’s why some people call him “the space cowboy.”

  6. You have more than two blogs. What does that say about YOU? ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Are you deliberately playing straight-man, or are you missing my humor?

  8. I’m pretty sure I missed much of your humor in high school, but I’m on to it now.
